Japanese Side Dish
Hi guys...
Glad to see you again!!
At this post I will talk about Japanese food. Who wouldn't know Japan, its most famous country of anime, technology, its polite people and hard workers and of course its food. Japan is famous for its sushi and other popular Japanese food has tempura, dorayaki and many more.
Well, this time I'm going to discuss the 3 side dish of the Japanese state I've practiced. So let's go.
1. Tempura
Tempura is a Japanese fried dish made of shrimp, fish kisu (glass plate) as well as vegetables like pumpkins, cramps and other wrapped with flour and fried.
Tempura said as it is coming to Japan around the 16th century, along with the entry of the guns from the Portuguese to the Kyushu and Nagasaki region. There are various theories that tell the origin of this tempura said, some say comes from Portuguese "Tempoelo" which means cook, but there are also those of saying that the "Tempola" said that means a catholic day. At that time, foods fried with many oils are still considered luxurious food.
In the days of Edo, both canola and sesame oil became easier to locate, and tempura began to spread. Since tempura has to be Fried, the smoke produced is so inevitable that it is not cooked in homes but food stalls. Along with sushi and soba dishes, tempura was known by the public as the 3 main dishes of the Edo period.
Unlike the current tempura, in the time of the tempura is presented in the form of skewers to be easy to eat. The set is containing 4 pieces (about 80 yen) so the price is affordable. The community is rarely consuming meat and using oil, so tempura gives its own color. The grounded roots are provided to provide fresh flavors. After that, slowly tempura is processed into luxurious dishes, even starting to know the "tempura delivery" where tempura is cooked at home the booking and restaurants' sought starting to offer a luxurious tempura menu.
Dango is a cake made of rice flour. Dango is a traditional sweet food that is commonly consumed with family. Small and round shaped with soft and chewy texture. Some dango have a plain taste.
Dango was first made at Kamo Tim Kamo Mitarashi in Shimogami Temple. Well, Mitarashi Dango is Dango whose peel pulled salty sauce from Shoyu.
If I was in the philosophy guys, one was a dango with five dango grains. One bar at the top represents the head, two dangos at the bottom represents the arm, and the last two stands symbolizes for the feet. Dango is best served with green tea.
There are several types of Dango ie Kusa Dango, Bochan Dango, Hanami Dango, Kinako Dango, Yaki Dango.
3. Dorayaki
You watch doraemon? You must know dorayaki.
Dorayaki is made of two round cakes, which are similar to pancakes, then between the two cakes, a kidney bean filling is spread.
The history of dorayaki dates back to the Edo period or in Japan, which was around 1603-1867. Dorayaki made at that time was shaped like a pale pancake and the dough was folded, not round.
The name dorayaki comes from two Japanese words, namely dora which means gong and yaki which means cooked with hot and dry temperatures. This is in accordance with the way of cooking dorayaki using a tool similar to a gong, which is why dorayaki is so named.
This circular dorayaki was created by a food shop called Usagiya in Ueno, Tokyo. This form of dorayaki apparently began in 1914 in Tokyo.
Uniquely, this round dorayaki with a filling in the middle is inspired by a typical European food or cake, lo, namely castella cake. This dorayaki cake dough is inspired by castella dough, but adds some authentic Japanese ingredients.
